Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if these are are anything more than vapourware yet?
This product (should) absolutely suit me down to the ground for what I
need it for, as a double system for HD stuff, and when I am wireless to
camera.
Cheers,
James >> Stay informed about: Tascam HD-P2 |

Hi James,
I spoke with the folks at Sweetwater, who had it listed as available on
their Web site, and they told me that they were showing availability at
the end of this month, in very limited supply (may have been a ploy to
get me to place the order now). I also asked about the time code
capabilities (since their marketing literature really doesn't explain
what they do) and he didn't have any additional info yet.
HTH,
Phil >> Stay informed about: Tascam HD-P2 |

After looking through Tascam's PDF brochure, it looks to me like there
is no timcode generator. The unit only appears to accept incoming
timecode. This is a huge drawback for me considering the added cost of
a portable TC generator. The unit itself looks to have a better build
and interface than the FR-2, but with this missing feature - it feels
as if both of the units have some unnecessary corners cut. >> Stay informed about: Tascam HD-P2 |

You are correct it only accepts timecode( From the reading i have done)
If anyone has better info please share). It is STILL better than the
Fr-2 though bc it is cheaper and has a better interface. For someone
like me who will be using it for mostly backup in a single system
enviroment i will be jamming it to the Camera so it isn't really a draw
back for me. I really am looking forward to buying one. I just don't
like any of Fostex current products much. I am hoping Tascam is
building it like the Da-P1 though >> Stay informed about: Tascam HD-P2 |

Interestingly, the high-resolution pictures are still missing from
their page. Not sure if this is just sloppy marketing, or a product
that isn't quite done yet. Notice too they have left out a USB
port...just firewire.
I'm still wondering about the TC capabilities on it. Is it going to
require continuous feed or can you just jam it. Hopefully we'll know
more soon. >> Stay informed about: Tascam HD-P2 |

It doesn´t have a generator so it will only record what comes in from
external.

The DA-P1 had lousy mix-pres. I hope they *don´t* build it like the
DA-P1.

I was refering to the DA-P1's durablity. The film school i went to has
been using them for years and even though they are really beat up they
still record very well and always work. >> Stay informed about: Tascam HD-P2 |

We are expecting our first shipment in early December. Street price
will be below $1000, email me for more details.
We expect it to be as durable as the DA-P1 but at this price point
expect the preamps to be on par with the DA-P1 as well. It will only
accept incoming timecode as far as we know. I'm happy to answer
any questions.

The preamps/digitizers were okay for a 1995 design. Are the P2s okay for
1995, or do you mean equivalent for today's midprice recorders?
(DAP1, mic in to digital out, measured with ATB+ and DATB:
..6% THD+N. 70 dB s/n below -12 dBFS. Add 11 dB s/n if MIC ATT is turned on.
Response 20 Hz - 20 kHz, +/- 2 dB at 48 kHz s/r, aliasing ~ -20 dB worst case.)

But I *learned* how it will be a not good preamp when using it in my
film school days ;-)
