That eerie plaintive bottleneck slide wail of Ry Cooder in *Paris,
Texas*. It just goes on, no hurry, howling at low ebb no matter the
circumstance, which is about all you can say about the region itself.

Paris really isn't very deserty.....but I'm not all that familiar with
the movie. Is Paris where Harry and Nattassia *used* to live? Or where
she lives in the 'monologue scene'? >> Stay informed about: Theme Song... |

Hey, that's a compliment to my old section of Blackland Prairie. It
ain't a desert in the sand sense. But where Travis began the movie sure
is; just over the border somewhere below Big Bend is a moonscape.
"There's nothing out there." He was heading towards Paris because that
was the last morsel in his existence; he'd responded a long time ago to
one of them land deals through the mails. He bought it when they were
all together; "I thought we might all live there someday."
So Paris, Texas, represents utopia.
Let me see, his bro' picked him up around Marfa or Ft Stockton, the
neighborhood where they filmed *Giant*. He was heading out northeast,
and he only had some six hundred miles to go. Brother Walt and his wife
lived in LA, and that's where they drove, and Jane was sending money to
their son Hunter from Houston, so that's where Travis took Hunter and
drove back to. I don't know where they were living when the happy family
was all together. In a trailer somewhere.

This reminds me of the story of the Englishman touring Texas, who was told
by a native that "if only we had more cool water and good people, this place
would be a Paradise!"
He replied "Yes, indeed. The same thing might be said about Hades." >> Stay informed about: Theme Song... |

If it doesn't have a lyric, it ain't a song. A song is a composition for
the human voice, with or without instrumental accompaniment.
