Howdy Folks,

I've been charging clients $50 a day for Time Coded MP3 transcriptions
recorded @ 64kbps. Ch. 1 = Time code @ -20 and Ch. 2 = the I/V. I
avoid dragging a lap top to the shoot by emailing the files to them
later. What's everybody else out there charging?

Cheers,

Sean O'Neil

Yep, $50 -- but I give them a dvd/cd at the end of the day.

Charles...do you have your laptop on location so that you can convert
and upload files during the day, ie our lunch or downtime break?

I always have my laptop with me but rarely process anything on location. If
they are in a huge hurry I'll do it but generally I take it home and upload
it to www.yousendit.com and furnish a download link unless I'm dealing with
a transcription house with dedicated FTP. As I've mentioned before, I use
the processing and upload time to finish all my other paperwork and also
take a listen to my work on studio quality monitors which gives me a better
sense of my work.

As an aside, I did a multichannel recording at Seattle's famous Pike Place
Market with a number Seahawks for ESPN on Friday and let the producer walk
with BWF Poly on a 2GB CF card. Just got a call from ESPN in Bristol that
they have no way to read a CF card....so I'm uploading the uncompressed poly
file as I type now! When I suggested they go to a Radio Shack and buy a CF
reader they seemed put out! :) ESPN built a brand spanking new HD broadcast
facility in the last couple of years and they don't have a single CF reader
in house. Guess my next step is to find some auction site and buy a dozen CF
readers for $4 each and supply those as well.

ESPN is just a slight step below local news in terms of where they are
in the tech world.
They can't deal w/ DVD Rams and hemmed and hawed at me about a DVD-R.
They were downright bizarre and defensive about getting anything other
than a DAT for a MNF Eva Longoria promo.
Maybe it's a Connecticut thing.
