Hi All
Got a gig in PAL system(post pro in UK), shooting on Sony 900 HD
camera (TC output 23.976?). Will also be recording on the SD744T for
transcription.this is what i intend to do. Hardwire cam TC out to 744T
TC in. 744T TC set to 25fps.

Should i also resend 744T TC out (25fps) to one of the audio track on
the 744? Is there anything that i missed out or could do to make the
transcriber's life easier?

Is TC stamping good enough for transcribing or is a full TC track
still required?
Used to do it on cassette tape with audio on one track and TC on
another.

Thank you all for your helpful postings.
Cheers
Michael

I'm a US guy but I was always under the impression that PAL is at 25 or
possibly shooting 24 but definately not 23.976?

Talk to your transcriptionist BEFORE you commit to no LTC. If they need LTC
after the fact and you don't have it you can get BWF Timecoder from
www.one-n.com and create LTC tracks if need be.

if they do it for tv - it would be 25 on camera
for film lay out it may be 24 or 25 on camera not 23 .98 ( the camera can
do all of them )
so the tc should be the same on 744
for transcription you can send the tc to one of the 1 or 2 tracks and mono
mix to other

better ask what do they prefer

Hey,

I just did a similar gig (same camera, PAL) and still haven't figured
out what the proper way is. Wish I had just used a Sound Devices,
instead I went with a Zaxcom handheld recorder, which has its issues.

Ultimately, they wanted a full TC track for transcription, and all I
could give them from my recorder were WAV files in quicktime, which
supposedly has tc in metadata, but they kept asking me for a full
track of TC, which I could not deliver.

Will you let me know how you handle it in the end, so I can learn from
your experience, since I did not from my own ??

Alexandra Gallo.

Get yourself a copy of BWF Timecoder from www.one-n.com It will take a BWF
file with timecode stamps and create a duplicate track of LTC which you can
combine into a stereo track with the original.
