I am considering buying in bulk to save some money what is the real
shelf life of these batteries? They claim ten years but I find that
hard to believe

Hi Whitney,
Me too.
If the foil pouch is not absolutely air tight, the shelf life is less
than a year.

So are the statements that Ultralife 9v batteries are good for 5-10
years all lies?

My experience with this batteries is total inconsistency, low
reliability, etc. so I'm just using them for secondary duties until I
finish the last batch I bought.
I now use iPower and have some alkaline just in case.

I bought a metric buttload of them with some other guys here a few years back.
Mine lasted over 5 years no problem. If you keep the envelope sealed you're
probably good to go. You could split the order up, like I did....(hint...hint)
