Hello all,

I watched the Chaplin classic "City Lights" today, and on listening to
the numerous violin solos, thought they resembled the slides and
general timbre of the great violinist Toscha Seidel. Does anyone know
if he recorded the
solos for this film? There are two recordings of the soundtrack, the
original from 1931, then I believe a re-recording with Chaplin
conducting, although I'm not sure if that's on the edition I have (DVD
from the Chaplin Collection, produced by a French company).

Anyone know if this is indeed Seidel?

Best,
RJM

Chaplin's scores were usually performed by studio orchestras, as
far as I've been able to gather. Only conductors are credited.

If Seidel performed in a studio orchestra ini 1931, then maybe so.
but I don't know how one would find out.
