Hollywood is about to get its first Wal*Mart.
Land has been cleared on the east side of La Brea--just south of
Sunset--for the store. The location once housed the film studio of
famed comedian Charlie Chaplin, and was torn down to "make way for
progress," according to store-manager Alfred Eric Campbell.
"We"re quite prowd of it," Campbell said. "It's being build in an
English tudor style--just like the old studio." An imitation bronze
plaque honoring the comedian is to be placed near the main entrance.
