Dear all looking for some positive feedback on this one, I have surfed the
net to seek out what could be termed as a real horror movie that would scare
the knickers off my girlfreind, not literally of course. She has given me a
challenge to come up by next Friday with either a video or a DVD of a horror
film, she claims to be not so easily scared of any horror/scary movie, so I
seek out your assistance on this one please.
Some movies have already been seen by us and are quite old and not so scary
anymore, Blair Witch, Shining, Aliens, Poltergeist and The Exorcist to name
a few. I am after something that is out there that may not be that popular
but all the same is enough to scare the underwear of anyone.
many thanks

Seems like once the really scary ones don't have the same effect, it gets
harder and harder to find the ones that can still scare you. I prefer
Scare/Suspense over gore.
Here's some that I like, though -
Halloween (great for suspense)
The Ring (good plot)
Pumpkinhead (it's been a while but I like the monster. Probably outdated
and cheesy now :) )
The Omen (Just saw it for the first time a couple years ago. Watched it
again recently... Very good movie)
Salem's Lot (watched this many years ago and it scared me - But it could
have been the environment - dark room at night, all that...)
Fun thread. Anybody else have some faves to throw out there?

great ones on here. I second "The Thing" and "Nightmare" - and once
you've done Nightmare, unless you want to do a marathon and go for all of
them, you can skip right to the end and do "Wes Craven's New Nightmare".
Another good one.

One I saw recently that was quite good was "The Descent" . I'm refering to
the Neil Marshall/English one and not the US movie of the same name .
The Japanese movie , "Audition" , delivers also .

Here are some Asian horrors you could try:
"Ju-On" (original Japanese version of "The Grudge")
"Dark Water" (original Japanese version)
"The Eye"
"Phone"
"Tale of Two Sisters" (this has one scene in particular that the suspense is
almost unbearable, and its a great story too!)

Thank you all kindly for your responses I will endevour to research those
you have suggested and identify as best I can those which do not fall into
the criteria of "bad story" "terrible acting" , "not at all scary", because
alas not every response provided that level of information, my fault and
apologies for not requesting this, and thank you to those whom have provided
additional info on the films. This posting has indeed generated an interest
and I have received some positive feedback , for those whom have posted
negative feedback, and as one or two have mentioned get a grip this posting
was never meant to be for juvenile responses.
many thank one and all , my internet research begins now and once I have
decided upon an Amazon purchase I will let you all know. Somehow I feel
guilty for not providing a raffle prize , lol
All the best
