| Is anyone able to charge extra for a wireless camera link in an ENG/EFP
situation? Some of the camera people I work with say no, but if they
want it I think they should pay for it. A Zaxcom stereo link is not
cheap. Thoughts?????

Just make it clear as to how many wireless mics come with your package. If
they want more you charge them. If the camera people don't want to pay for
it then don't give it to them. Tell them you don't have any free wireless
with your package but you are happy to use their free wireless systems if
they provide them.
Out of curiosity, how much are you charging for a standard ENG/EFP sound
package and what do you include with that. Personally I charge $150 for
standard package which includes a 442, boom/mic, 2 RF mics, an IFB, and the
usual assortment of cables and adaptors. I also stress that I carry
redundant backup for all of that stuff as well. For the most part...anything
additional to that is extra. >> Stay informed about: Wireless camera link |

I did a check of prices in Los Angeles, and the same package daily would
be about $285. I have always felt that we are not getting the prices we
should be getting.

Well Eric....one is not going to get daily rental house prices for a package
they are working for ENG. But the bottom line remains that one does not GIVE
away a link. >> Stay informed about: Wireless camera link |

And that would be the kind of number I'd give someone who complained about
$150 for a kit as I've described. Believe me....they complain.

>From a "friendly" pro audio website-
442 - $35
411 - $80 ($160)
M72 & 2 X PR72b - $35
VDB 16', internal wired - $15
416 - $25, OR boom package $50 (incl Rycote, pole mic, XLR)
Total - $200/day
Bottom line...
Move to Florida and open a pro audio rental house, retire.

the paper (or the web pages) suffers everything :-)
if you are working soundman that do about 150 days in a year and like
to do about 15 % on your investment ( more if you dont borrow the
money) , everithing above 0.4% a day is just a still :-)
so dont know what are the others do or not for 20000 grand of equip in
your bag you take more then 100 you did it
so if it renting house , it might be double since they pay the rent
and staffers cellery
my 2 shekels
and sorry every normal producer know the numbers
the numbers are for people who buy new gear and keep it for 3 years and
sell it for 50% of it value
might be change a little from country to country

I just tell them how many wires I have for the money they want to pay.
We can use them
as a link or put them on people.

I would think it might be a little dangerous to push the rental house
analogy too far. Most of the bigger rental houses like Coffey,
Location, Trew, etc. rent on a 4-day week and 3-week month. I don't
know how most of you treat gear rental, but I can count on one hand the
number of times in over 20 years of freelancing that I've been asked to
give a discount on multi-day, multi-week shoots. On the other hand, I
have a sliding rate depending the amount of regular work from a client
starting at $75 for a boom, mixer and camera cable to around $250 for a
basic film package including a recorder and a couple of wirelesses,
etc.
