I've got a 16mm camera set up (Arriflex 16-BL) that I've had for
several years and I'm trying to make a decision on whether to sell it
while it's still got a little value (and not just as an antique). I'm
trying to make this decision based on use, and from looking at all the
"help wanteds" for indie films, I've probably seen one job in the past
2 years where they're shooting on film. The broke kids are just MiniDV
and the indie filmmakers with any kind of budget are wanting DP's
experienced with HD w/ their own equipment.

None of this is new knowledge of course.. but before I throw all this
film equipment on eBay, I wanted to know if there was still a market
for standard 16mm that I'm missing or any reason I might have wished I
would have held onto the camera...

A short time ago every second TVC on screen was using the "Super 8
look" and people were shooting medium budgeted material on Super 8 to
give it a look. Maybe 16mm time will come again if only for the
"look". If you need to sell to help finance you into a kit that will
score you jobs - fair enough. But I'm not sure the money you get will
put a very large dent in your requirements for an HD kit especially if
it cannot be converted to super 16.

I have a Bolex 16mm with the three turret lenses and it has been locked up
now for over 20 years, but boy, didn't it take nice pics. Almost seems a
waste now to have such a nice camera "locked away"
