I'm glad to report that New Yorkers are getting a Christmas present
this year.

The Film Forum will be showing Chaplin's "City Lights" from Christmas
Day (which happens to be the 30th Anniversary of Chaplin's death) to
New Year's Day.

Hope all of you East Coast silent film buffs can make it. If you
haven't seen "City Lights" opn a big screen, you don't know what
you're missing.

I take it this means you won't be going?

Somehow I won't be overly disappointed.

Of course, they still won't know what they're missing after seeing the
film on Film Forum's postage stamp-sized screen.

On the other hand, they will be seeing the film in its original "Smell-
O-Rama" format, complete with the pungent fumes of garbage and body
odor native to tramps, both on-screen and off.

Quite true. The Film Forum is a dreadful venue that diminishes the
visual impact
of its presentations.

Contrary to Monsewer Feuillade, it's a
terrible place to see CITY LIGHTS.

I'll be going wearing my new stunning blue sequin gown with matching
seven inch heel stilettos.

I think you might want to try the meat packing district with that
ensemble.
