up and have joined the effort to defeat George W. Bush. It would be very
interesting to see what sort of clever, nuanced, multi-layered social satire
Chaplin would fashion to poke fun at him while revealing the grave danger our
world now faces with another four years of this arrogant buffoon in charge.

God help us all.

I agree with every word, Bruce. This country is going to be in serious trouble
for the next four years.

The distress that Bush's victory induces
in haters like you is confirmation of its
positive significance.

Yes....distress over the victory to a second term of a man such as George W.
Bush - has "positive significance."

BTW, George. I have long respected you and your political views on this board.
Having said this - on the topic of GWB - I came to the conclusion quite a while
ago that recognizing his highly dangerous combination of arrogance and
ignorance is not a Republican/Democrat - conservative/liberal issue.
Recognizing it simply depends on two things: do you have a brain? and do you
have a heart?

I was referring to haters like Tom Moran,
not you.

But I found the 8 years of Clinton to
be almost unendurable, so you can put up
with 8 years of Bush.

I don't recognize the dangerous
combination you describe, and I
naturally resent the customary
ad hominen, questioning my motives,
character and intelligence.

Correct except for one word; it should be negative significance!

Somehow I'd rather have a heart...

It does have negative significance for
anyone with a left-wing cultural and political agenda, yes.

It particularly galls haters (like Moran)
who regard Bush as akin to Satan
or Hitler.

Thanks for showing us why your side
lost the election, lost in the House,
lost in the Senate, and will lose in
future appointments to the Supreme
Court.

Sadly, I meant I see nothing positive coming from the next four
years, let alone anything significant...

Unfortunately, there may be plenty of significance, but very little of
it will be positive.

Actually, George, he may be stating very
succinctly why "your side" won.

Anyone who thinks that a brainless ideologue who
lies his people into an unnecessary and wasteful
war represents "moral values" is an idiot.

Any anyone who thinks that might makes right
is a bigger idiot.

You know, you people are really going to have to stop quoting George. I didn't
killfile him for nothing, you know.

Nevertheless, it is kind of amusing (and revealing on his part) to see him
refer to me as a "hater," when anyone who's been on this newsgroup even once
knows that George Shelps is probably the biggest hater on Usenet.

Ah, the joys of projection...

Back to the killfile you go, Georgie!

Yeah, right.

You can find no example of extreme
vilification in my posts, such as
your slandering of Bush as a Hitler
and a Satan. In addition, you have
called me a fascist on more than one
occasion.

Add to that your persistent efforts
to label me a "draft dodger" without
presenting a shred of evidence other
than that I didn't serve in Viet Nam.

Except for calling me a fascist,
you have done all the above recently
in this newsgroup.

In addition, you kicked off the politicization of this group by
introducing the topic of the recent
election.

The distaste I have expressed here
many times for Chaplin's political
worldview is not an example of
"hating," it is on-topic and in response
to those who take opposing positions,

Besides, I love Chaplin's films, despite
my feeling that the man was not the
Cold War martyr his defenders
allege him to be.

No, Bush will not advance an agenda
you approve of.
