Post subject: auto start SD744t
Archived from groups: rec>arts>movies>production>sound (more info?)

Hi all,

i'm about to buy a 744t and a ambient lockit for the cam (XL-H1 has
genlock and TC in)
setup like:
use 744t as master (free run it) get TC in lockit box
connect lockit to cam )both genlock and TC)

this way my TC stay's in sync for long enough (i was told by ambient)
(best way was to use 2 lockit's but the internal ambient circuit of
the 744t is also very good )

but i would like to auto start the 744t when cam goes to rec.
i know the 744t has a auto start function but then tc is also used
from the radio link to auto start the 744t i was told again by ambient
that this was not very reliable (rf interference etc.) anyone come up
whit a clever idea to get this to work:?

cheers and thanks in advance

Martijn

Martin,
You are just one Gadget away from unemployment. Once you totally automate
the backup or dual system recorder, you are asking to be eliminated. Instead
of trying to figure out how to get the cameraman to do your job you should
point out to the producer how valuable you are because you can continue to
roll and get all that important candid dialogue that happens before and
after the cameras roll.

Any wireless means of triggering the Recorder is taking a chance. (even a
wired method can be problematic when people trip over the cable and pull it
out from one device or the other and no one notices because no one was
assigned the duty to start and stop the machine)

The record autostart on the 744T is initiated by timecode starting to
increment from the camera when it starts to record (when the camera is not
recording the timecode is static) when in Record Run mode but it sounds like
that's not your setup as timecode is going to the camera from a lockit
(freerun) and not from the camera to the 744T.
Dropouts in an RF link for the timecode from camera to 744T are ignored if
in the 744T AutoRecord continuous mode because the 744T has some
'intelligence' and only stops when it receives static timecode and ignores
any dropouts.
