I've read that Hitchcock often uses a bird or birds to show disorder
or trouble to come.

For example, in _Rebecca_ (1940), when Laurence Olivier (Max de
Winter) and Joan Fontaine (the second Mrs. de Winter) enter their car
just after being married, there are birds at the side of the street.

Knowing the detailed steps that Alfred Hitchcock took in crafting his
movies, I believe that this was a deliberate symbol foreboding the
trouble to come.

Other than _The Birds_ where else have you seen birds in the Hitchcock
movies?

Please post your replies.

Off the top of my head....

"Young and Innocent" (1937) when Robert Tisdall discovers Christine
Clay's body on the beach. Birds circle overhead.

"Sabotage" (1936) has birds and bird references all over it. In
particular in reference to the bomb surrounding Steve Verlock.

Birds all over the office of Norman Bates in "Psycho". Stuffed of course,
but still there.

In response to this question I also put up on another Hitchcock group
Countess Palaffi" wrote on Sep 17, 2003:

>>Funny that you bring this up. I was just going to ask this same question. I've enjoyed reading others' comments - here are mine... I am quite sure there are others, but can't recall off the top of my head what they were.
>>Teresa Wright wore bird pins in "Shadow of a Doubt" in the scene where she runs to the library to read that missing newspaper article.

>>Joan Fontaine wore a bird pin in "Suspicion" in the scene when Cary Grant brings her to their new house.
>>Kim Novak wore a bird pin in "Vertigo" with the grey suit.

>>There was a bird in a cage on the seat of the bus beside Cary Grant in "To Catch a Thief". Grace Kelly had birds on the skirt of her gold dress in TCAT as well.

>>In "Marnie", there was a china bird on the mantelpiece in Marnie's bedroom at Wyckwyn.

>> In "Sabotage", there was a bird shop and a bird cage pertaining to a bomb plan.

>> "The Birds" goes without saying.

>> In "Psycho" there were stuffed birds and pictures of birds.

>> In "Rope", the dinner included roast chicken.

I know there are others. If you know where they are, please post
them.
