....because being a tightwad I wanted to wait till it got a bit cheaper...

anyway I watched A3 SE the other day. I fell asleep so I missed the last
half hour but I just noticed 3 more things that are a bit bewildering.

1/ how did Ripley and co get out of the A2-style hypersleep pods and into
the A1-style ones?
2/ why is the facehugger that attacked the cow so huge?
3/ why is the chestburster so huge and well developed?

eh?

This is clearly a stylistic choice made by David Fincher, the same way changing
the look of the chestburster and alien warriors in "Aliens" was a stylistic
choice made by James Cameron.

>2/ why is the facehugger that attacked the cow so huge?

It's a Super-Facehugger, intended to implant the embryo of a Queen. This is
discussed in detail in the supplements.

>3/ why is the chestburster so huge and well developed?

It was birthed by a large four-legged animal and not a human. Since the Alien
adopts many of the physical traits of its host organism, the slightly larger
size and different configuration is perfectly consistent with the lifecycle.

It was a continuity error. In what way does it have any impact on the
movie?

> 2/ why is the facehugger that attacked the cow so huge?

It was - supposedly - a special queen-laying FH.

> 3/ why is the chestburster so huge and well developed?

The continuity between films of what the CBs looked like isn't very good.
Nor how the aliens looks. This is quite suprising given the title of the
films, really. I blame James Cameron for setting that precedent.

well, I assumed they liked going along with the idea from the original movie
production that the alien creature takes on certain genetic aspects of it's
host, and so well if you might well know about a lot of four legged animals
such as deer etc being able to get onto their feet and walk within a short time
after their birth. so this alien chestburster had inherited that trait.

Also, well since the ox was such a big thing, the alien burster could afford to
spend time developing and growing to a larger size

I might ask you why on September 11th, two (of the four hijacked) passenger
planes took off from an airport and were said to have crashed into the World
Trade Centre and eye witness reports saw that it was a non commercial plane
flying into the second of the World Trade Centre buildings , and photos on
major newspapers and magazines from the time show that it seemed to have a
strange pod hanging from beneath the fuselage that would have been unlikely to
been allowed under the plane if it were to take off from a commercial airport.

So I think if someone were supposed to make an Alien movie ias a parody of the
way we are fed with images in the news channels and told to believe this and
that and if we look closely, nothing adds up properly after a while, I think of
Alien 3 now as a masterpiece as a premonition.

the original idea was to have a creature nicknamed the Superfacehugger, and it
had webbed fingers and layed the queen embryo and also a second embryo that
would be a warrior drone to protect the queen while it developed slowly, and it
would have been bigger than the average facehugger

it is quite a wonderful style that David Fincher adopts where the pods change
style in the film just like that, one moment they're one kind of pod and then
the next moment in the movie, they are another kind of pod. I suppose having
this in one film allows us to become confused enough to just allow the rubber
puppet alien and the man in the suit alien to be seen as the same thing.

There ought to be more films where things change style in the same film a few
shots later

My sentiments exactly.

You add up one stylistic choice and another and another and you end up at
some point with an incoherent movie.
