Archived from groups: rec>arts>movies>production>sound (more info?)

I had a question regarding the 411 rx.
First of all, by far the best wireless unit i have ever heard and
worked with.
The only thing is that it seems that i am constantly having problems
calibrating this rx with this VU field mixer.
I have to set the output level at -35dbu to bring the meters to unity.
This seems really low to me. I have tried running the output to +5 and
ran it in line level but it was way to over modulated for broadcasting
standards.

question is: should i pad the signal down via the mixer even though i
am trying to calibrate the rx to the mixer and not vice versa?

any suggestions are always much appreciated.

And yes, i will invest in a 442 once i start gaining more clients..
thank you and by the way, this group is the best learning tool i have
ever came across..

thank you
russell

yes...
it sounds clean and expensive.
I agree. these mixers can be frusterating but it has made me be
creative. I use every input and output to achieve what has become the
norm for distributing sound on set. thank goodness for distribution
amps.

thanks again oleg

place the input sensitivity in the way the second led will blink when the
person rising his voice green and occasionally one will go red so you have
normal input level

turn off mixer limiter
place the switch channel with mic level -10 db setting
place the pot on 12 o clock for the channel
turn on the receiver ton menu
increase or decriase the tone till you get the 0 db
place the switch back to 0 on the mixer input

I think you done

if i remember the limeter et on wendt ( this is wendt)placed 8db over the 0
so with 0DB VU AT -20 on the camera you will get -10-8 dbfs at the moment
limiter works
work that your needle will fly to+1 on the hottest levels on your vu meters
( oh i hate these ones)

Didnt work with wendt quit a long time so check these settings .

these mixers I appreciate more then others , they live forever ,my privies
now at 3rd owner with single problem after ( one potentiometer change or
something like that + regularly calibrations )after more then 13 years of
work .
I think that Mr. wendt created one hell of the suggest mixers exist for eng
type of work as I can figure from the Israeli renting companies dealing
with local baboons and survive their abuse, about 80% of the mixers in rental
houses are wendt or wendt under psc name
so maybe this is not the most sophisticated product but defently one of the
best investments you can get
by the way - vu metering is common problem as it really don't give you much
when you mixing to dbfs scale recorders .

Best
