This is possibly the best Chaplin Keystone I've seen, though I haven't
seen too many, I'll admit. Anyone know how complete the Laughsmith
version is?
I'm saddened to find out that, upon reading about the Chaplin Keystone
restorations at the BFI's website, they're still missing lots of
footage. Too bad they're not seeing fit to use 16mm material when no
35mm material is available. I dearly hope they reconsider. >> Stay informed about: How complete is the print of THE ROUNDERS included in Laug.. |

If memory serves, we used five or six different prints
for that reconstruction. At the time of release we were
unaware of the small bit of business with Roscoe in the
hallway which sets up the action with Al St. John.
We have since also learned that the "asleep in the deep"
intertitle near the end of the film was not original -- it was
part of a reissue print.
The second volume of Arbuckle will contain an improved,
revised and expanded version of this short.

Thanks for the info, Paul. I really, really appreciate the fact that
you and your team go to such lengths in presenting these classic
films, and I'm anxious for more Laughsmith silent comedy collections.
Could you perhaps provide a clue as to when we can expect Arbuckle
Vol. 2, and/or any other releases you might have in the pipeline? >> Stay informed about: How complete is the print of THE ROUNDERS included in Laug.. |

Thank you! We, myself and the other members of
the SCM, are dedicated to finding and accurately
reconstructing as much vintage comedy material
as possible -- it is truly a labor of love for us.
We are currently relocating to California and
expanding operations. As soon as we settle
into the new digs and resolve some distribution
concerns I will post production schedules and
detail some of our other plans.
Thanks again!

Another Arbuckle set!? AWESOME! Will there be more films co-starring
Mabel Normand in this set? She is the main reason I bought the
Arbuckle collection.
While we are on the subject, would you folks ever consider a Mabel
Normand collection? I am DYING to see any pre-1915 Keystone shorts and
most are very hard to find or in very bad quality. "The Little
Teacher" for example, looks like a hilarious film, but the quality on
my print is so bad that I cannot really understand what is going on? I
think "The Water Nymph" should be officially released as well. >> Stay informed about: How complete is the print of THE ROUNDERS included in Laug.. |

The answer to all of your questions is YES:
Yes, the second Arbuckle set will contain multiple restored Mabel
Normand films.
Yes, we are already preparing a massive Mabel Normand collection.
Yes, it will contain The Water Nymph!
We do not have a completion date of any sort, there is much work to be
done,
but it will certainly be worth the wait.
We are also crafting a large Chaplin Imitators collection. While I
cannot yet share
the title list or release date, I can tell you that several archives
are providing rarities
which will surprise even the most jaded fan.
Again, we move very slowly but the amount of time that we spend on
each production
is directly related to the overall quality of each release.

Wow...I'm salivating already at the thought of those releases.
Hopefully the Chaplin Imitators set will include a Lonesome Luke or
two besides LUKE'S MOVIE MUDDLE, which is about the only one I ever
see turn up. I'm glad that Laughsmith takes as much time as needed to
get everything right.
At some point, I'd love to see a truly definitive collection of the
Arbuckle/Keaton collaborations, with all the best footage from both
previous collections utilized, most importantly a reassembled
MOONSHINE utilizing the 16mm print for the bulk of the film and
replacing the appropriate sections with the surviving 35mm material,
so at least we'd have a complete film. Fixing the splices in the
superior OUT WEST source utilized by the Image set with bits from that
used
by the Kino set would be great too. Oh yeah, be sure not to leave out
THE COOK...although I doubt this could all happen without some serious
cooperative effort taking place between Laughsmith, Kino, FPA and
Milestone...but what a wonderful set it would make, and the
completists wouldn't have to buy four different sets. >> Stay informed about: How complete is the print of THE ROUNDERS included in Laug.. |

Just wanted to jump in here-this compilation sounds excellent. I've been
away from the group for the last several weeks but this is great news to
hear! Many thanks to Laughsmith for making these available.
