Post subject: Why can't I use component?
Archived from groups: uk>media>home-cinema (more info?)

Hi all,

I have a 37inch Hitachi plasma display and DGTEC 2000a high definition digital
TV tuner. I would like to connect them with component video cables but the image
appears out of sync as it scrolls horizontally. I do not have this problem when
connecting my Denon 2800 DVD player to the display with component video cables.

Can anyone suggest what would cause this problem? Is it likely that I could get
the tuner modified to send the right signal?

Currently I am using a VGA cable to connect the tuner to the display, but I
would prefer to use component video cables so I can leave the display on AV1 and
use my receiver to do video switching seeing as I don't use the TV speakers.

Thanks for any help.

Might be that your tuner is outputting RBG and your plasma is expecting
component. If the tuner is like a sky digibox, the sync is on the composite
video output. The plasma will have to sync to this or you'd need a scan
converter etc. Has your Plasma got a true RGB input you could try instead?

As previous post states - sounds like you are outputting RGB and need a
sync. Check the spec of your TV tuner.
Have you ensured that you have updated the output for component on the
menu's
BTW - how much was the TV box and where did you get it?

The specs for the tuner say it outputs component (YPbPr I think) and the plasma
doesn't have any RGB in, except for via the VGA connector.

The tuner box was the only high definition one available in Australia at the
time, and separately they could be bought for AU$999 (approx 400 UK pounds).
I got it thrown in with speakers and stand for about a grand less than the
recommended retail for the set alone. Cost me AU$13k (approx 5000 UK pounds).
The sick thing is I could have bought a 90cm widescreen CRT at the time for
about $3000 then bought a 42inch HD plasma now and had money left over. ;(
