In Matrix 1, Neo walks into the room and watches the child bend the
spoon - at least, this is the impression we're given, that Neo is
watching the spoon bend. Yet, the child teaches us that it is us that
bends, not the spoon. So Neo was in fact watching a kid stare at a
non-bending spoon. Yet Neo seemed incredibly fixated by this.

Right?
Cough.

I'm not sure if the child is a program or a real person either
sitting in a chair somewhere with a probe in his neck or lying
in a pod filled with pink goo.

But the Oracle's apartment is in the Matrix virtual reality world,
where the laws of physics can be bent (or even broken) so just about
anything can happen, except that anything too weird might drive
people bananas, which presumably isn't in the Machine's best
interests.

Sean

ps. my spoons bend too, if I'm trying to scoop out ice cream
that has frozen too hard.

Remember in Reloaded the Kid gives Neo a spoon from one of the "children of
zion"? I'm pretty certain we're to assume they're the same child as the one
in the Oracles apartment.

Isn't Zion too deep in the Earth to be at "broadcast level"?

He pretty much has to be a child, since Neo was told to wait with the other
"potentials", and they were all apparently there because all of humanity
depended on one of them being "the one" at some point. And by definition,
which I think is made up anyway, "the one" is a human who plugs into the
Matrix.

The two scenes are six months apart. Spoonboy was at broadcast depth
during the first scene but not the second. The same as Neo.

Isn't it possible that the child is able to change the Matrix? Since
it does not mean that he is changing HIS vision or he identifies that
there is no spoon so he (alone) can see it bent. So when he (or Neo)
tries to realize the truth, the Matrix gets modified and everyone can
see the spoon bent. And, this is the way Neo (afterwards) does other
miracles within the Matrix. I mean whatever Neo changes in the Matrix
is also reflected on others. And it is not only about this child, he
is modifying rules of physics, and two other girls were doing similar
with gravity.

Most probably the child is not a program. The Priestess says to Neo,
"These are the other potentials, you can wait here". So the children
we see there are humans living in the Matrix and have extra powers
like Neo and others and Oracle is training them or something like
that.
