in his encyclopedia, he pretty much says kurosawa is an overrated
imitator of american westerns. he compares kurosawa with mizoguchi, a
stupid game begun by the stupid french.
didn't anyone tell this moron that you can't compare apples and
oranges?

this guy is a total idiot.

ozu. but i have my doubts. if japanese ppl really felt in the ways they
do in these movies, then i find less merit in them because they'd be a
mere copy of them. but i dont think it's the case with him; his merit
probably lies in being the first one to narrate the everyday.

now the other ones. far too long since i saw any mizoguchi. kurosawa
however was sort of silly. i thought imamura's pigs and battleships was
ok, but not great. saw pistol opera, which is pretty weird thats for
sure and more to my liking. merry christmas mr lawrence was pretty
godamnawful. i can see why you'd like it, being as it is about military
men and their melodramas.

i'm pretty much into other sorts of cinema at the moment. i'll post the
movies i seen this month at the end of the month and try to balance it
all out.

I sense something is being narrated. The Japanese family in "Tokyo
Story" almost completely refuses to touch or hug.
