Actually, I got the sense that the derelict was quite far from the colony.
If so, it probably would have survived the explosion pretty much intact. 40
megatons is a big blast, but not big enough to destroy large, solid
structures hundreds of miles away.

I know! Time travel!
Make a movie, that fits in between Aliens and A3, where Ripley mysteriously
wakes up from hypersleep and sees a time/continuum gateway (or a DeLorean)
onboard the sulaco, steps through it and gets transported back in time and to
the originating planet of the SJ!
Whoooa! The movie ideaq of the century!
