I am desperately looking for a 1910 film. I don't know it it even really
exists. I've heard about ir from two different sources. All help will be
great.
It's a supposed documentary made by Lumiere -or Pathe- cameramen in the
Train Station of Stapov (or Astapovo), in Russia, the 10 of november, 1910.
In the scene, an old man is visible. The (¿urban?) legend says that this
man is Leo Tolstoi, the russian writer, filmed anonymously, hours before
his death.
Some one has heard about it?
I've started some search, but the Lumiere Catalogs end in 1907. I've asked
two experts in my country, with no success.
Please, someone can help me?
Thanks a lot in advance.

This film exists in excellent condition and was shown in a season of
pre-revolutionary Russian silent films called "Silent Witnesses" at the
Pordenone (Italy) silent film festival about 1989. No doubt the print came
from Gosfilmofond of Russia, which I understand will sell PAL VHS
videocassettes for research purposes of silent films in its collection.
Some of the films in this retrospective are also available in 35mm reference
copies at the Library of Congress and on VHS from BFI Video in the UK and from
Milestone Film and Video in New Jersey, but I do not know if this film is
included in the selection. You could check with them, however.
I don't think there's any question but that the subject is Tolstoi although the
film was not made mere "hours" before his death. As I recall the story behind
the film is in Jay Leyda's book "Kino" (1960), the best English-language
history of early Russian and Soviet film.

Dear Mr. Shepard,
I've lost your message, it doesn't appear in the server. Fortunately, I
have a copy in my HD.
Just a pair of lines to thank you very much for your kind message and the
invaluable information. I'll contact with the people at Pordenone silent
film festival as first step.
Kind regards, and thanks again.
