Going through the archives of this group, there used to be a lot of
Charlie-loving females who rhapsodized about his cute butt and other
physical attributes. What happened to all these women, have they moved
on to presumably greener pastures? (Can't possibly think what those
might be).

Back in '99, 2000 and beyond there were loads of great
discussions/arguments about Charlie's beauty and sexyness. If there are
any Chaplin chicks out there lurking, please come back. No one has
discussed the weighty topic of pressing the pause button on your DVD
player during pivotal bathing suit scenes in The Adventurer and The
Cure. A recent assemblage of female Chaplin fans agreed that he was
most adorable in "Carmen" and least adorable in "King of New York,"
though I think he reached his nadir of uncuteness in "The Professor."

This is a crucial element of Chapliniana that has been mysteriously
neglected lately.

The posts I refer to appeared for years on *this* group, not the Yahoo
group. Those chicks were here in abundance for years. What happened to
them?

Burnout, and/or too many political posts, and/or too much squabbling
here.

Steve, I actually checked the Chaplin Yahoo group and there aren't any
Chaplin chicks over there (nor any postings that I could find) on CC's
"physical appeal." The original FAQ for this group (by Tom) has am
entire section on "Chaplin Chicks," "Derby Dolls" and specifically
addresses all this. Then, for the first 3-4 years of this group, there
was frequent posts (some would say "bimbo eruptions") about Charlie's
body, butt, cuteness, etc. This was a constant refrain in the group for
years. It's interesting that it's evolved so that these types of
gushings evaporated, probably to the great relief of those posters
remaining. I guess the Chaplin Chicks were chased off, scared away or
are cowering in the bushes.

The predictable responses will be:

"Thank God!"
"Or they got a life."
"We hope you take after their example."

as i mentioned, the same type of posts are on the Chaplin Yahoo group.
Now indeed the posters are different (if that is what you are talking about),
but not the posts.

Hey, wait a minute! I don't post alot, but I'm still here. I just don't
want to get into the political stuff all that much anymore. Been
there, done that.

Hannah, last I heard, was getting married. Don't know what happened to
Lori. As for me, I'm still into Chaplin, but not to the extent I was
in the mid/late '90s. Life happens.

Hi Leslie

That is also the last I heard from her -- but this is a few years ago. She
may already be married by now, bless her.

Indeed it does.

Which was never officially made the FAQ for this group, and is badly in need of
updating.

You are the sole survivor. :)

(Which makes me wonder if alt.movies.chaplin might make for a good reality TV
series...)

Well, why don't you speak up?

We've all been there and we've all done that.

But it's funny -- when you post on-topic, and actually write about Chaplin,
George shuts right up. Note how no one has been quoting him lately. This is I
assume because he's not being enabled in his political obsessions as much as he
used to be -- for which I humbly thank everyone here.

Cool! :)

For which we are all eternally grateful. :)

Sorry, Monsewer, I was hospitalized for
a total of 9 days and haven't gotten back
into the swim of posting yet.

But don't try to pin that political tail on me
because Carnahan has always made
off-topic political posts and you, yourself,
kicked off Bush-bashing with your posting of a slanderous comparison of
W to Hitler.

(Will someone please repost this so
the idiot can get the facts?)

I was wondering why we weren't hearing from you lately! I hope
you're on the mend now.

Tomorrow I'll post a Sternberg anecdote I saw in a book I've been
reading. I hadn't heard it before so maybe it'll be new to you too.

Leslie also originated the parenthetical comment at the end of the post.
