help with a film title

Hi

I hope its ok to ask this question here... I am trying to find out the name
of a film I saw in the 70s/80s.

Its about a young boy who is dying. His dad decides to grant his dying
wishes. I cant remeber all the wishes, but one of them is that he wants
some wolves, so he gets some, and forms a bond with them.

His final wish is to go on a fairground, its late, but his dad mangages to
get into one, and they go on a few rides. On one ride, the boy actually
dies, and at the point, the wolves back at his house start howling. Its a
bit of a weepy (gets me just thinking about it!)

Anyone know what on earth I am writing about?
