Those of us who use Google Groups don't have killfiles.
The 14 threads preceding this one are his, and none of them
have a response.

....Oh, has it?--Huh.

Most people had him killfiled from two years back, so we didn't notice.

Afaics, Google (when it works) makes a nice, automatic, default
presentation of a ng's recent activity relative to *your* visit-
history. (To us lazy folks, 'automatic' and 'default' are catnip.)

Why do you use Google? Netscape has a newsreader within it's e-mail
reader. MS Express has one, too. There are what's called newsreaders,
such as Free Agent and XNews. I've used them both. Any of these
methods is better than reading it through a browser. Which is what I
assume you meant, that you go straight to Google in your browser and
read it there.

What is the advantage of that, that you'd choose that method?

Not for those of us using Google, unless you mean 'copper.net'
in your e-mail address.

Wait. I was wrong. If a Google user clicks on 'show options'
in your post, and then clicks on 'show original', your complete
header is displayed.

Actually, that's 'more options', not 'show options'.

If one is serious about doing usenet, best option is a commercial news
server that is available from within any newsreader .. *and* offers reading
through a browser. There are lots of them available, many of them very
good, and one of them you will see listed in the header of this message ..

Yes. My employer blocks all traffic on Port 119, so I have no access to
newsgroups at work. With a Newsguy subscription, I can read your insults (!) on
company time ..

Newsguy also offers killfile protection, and a really good search feature that
is better in some respects than Google's. For one thing, hits are *not*
threaded, so I see only the messages I'm looking for.

There are other reasons, and they are no doubt many of the same reasons you use
Supernews ..

I have to admit, George, I really didn't understand what you meant,
since I'm not familiar with it at all. Are you saying that you pay for
newsgroup access strictly through a service that provides newsgroup
access primarily? If so, why? And I really can't imagine how you'd
call up a newsreader through a browser. It seems like redundant costs
to me. You'd have to have internet access through some ISP anyway,
which already provides newsgroup access (at least any ISP I've used so
far has) with an e-mail account. Is there something extra that a
newsgroup provider provides that your standard ISP (such as CableOne)
doesn't?

As for what MoviePig said about Google making it easy for your own
posting history: With filters, I color my own messages with a particular
color, and I flag any thread I've in, and I highlight the posts of OTHER
of our most frequent posters (MoviePig, you, Derek, Calvin, and a couple
of others; and I killfile Sirblob) with other colors. Everything is
clear in a glance. Since I know people like MP are technically
proficient (I'm basing this on the sophistication of his animated
website), there must be a yet unimagined convenience I just haven't
realized to using Google. In order to understand this, I'm going to
have to try Google one day.

Anyway, if you take the time to explain any of this to me, GO SLOW.
