Post subject: What's in an initial?
Archived from groups: alt>movies>hitchcock (more info?)

In Hitchcock, its been pointed out over and over again how so many
female characters have first names that begin with the letter 'M',
leading many to believe its done in a kind of reference to a mother or
motherhood (or even Hitchcock's own mother).

Now, I don't believe Hitchcock was so trite he'd use characters'
initials to signify something (other than the more substantial example
above) .. but I do feel there could be something in the following:

'Shadow of a Doubt'
Both central characters share the exact same first name. (This is an
established given.)

'Strangers on a Train'
Guy Haines (G and the immediately SUCceeding letter, H)
vs.
Bruno Anthony (B and the immediately PREceding letter, A)

'Psycho'
As has been shown more than once, the name Norman is virtually an
anagram of the name Marion

'Frenzy'
Richard Blaney vs. Bob Rusk (initals swapped)

Any others?

Fergal #.
