"Frankenstein Unbound" is a kind of scifi
horror about an inventor from the future who travels
back in time via a failed experiment only to meet
with Mary Shelley, Doctor Frankenstein and the monster
itself. John Hurt plays the scientist.
It's this kind of offbeat movie that make collecting
horrors interesting.

It was also Roger Corman's return to directing after many
years. Has he directed another film since Frankenstein Unbound?

FRANKENSTEIN UNBOUND was moderately well received but wasn't really a
hit. You should get hold of the Brian Aldiss novel on which it is
based. Aldiss then write Dracula Unbound in the hope that Corman would
film that too, but F UNBOUND had not been successful enough to justify
a follow-up.

Corman told me that the version released in Europe was slightly
different to the US release but did not go into specifics (the full
interview is on my website). I don't know whether both versions were
released on video, as European videos are often taken from US masters.
Somebody with more time on their hands will maybe one day investigate
this.

The monster in F UNBOUND, played by Nick Brimble, is one of my
favourite Frankenstein monsters because he actually does look scary
which - let's face it - most Frankenstein monsters don't.
