I just started The DaVinci Code at the weekend, after finishing David
Mitchell's (rather good) Cloud Atlas on Friday. So far the former seems
a little bland to me - but I'll bear with it, mainly for the reasons you
mention - that there's some interesting faux-conspiracy issues
addressed, particularly with regard to the Priory of Sion.

I'd imagine that's a certainty - and that the majority of organised
religions have done so at some point, for various reasons. Even Buddhism
seems to have become something of a corruption from the original intent
of the Buddha.
