Hi

UCR300 Compact Diversity Receiver
UCR301 Compact UHF Receiver
UCR310 UHF Diversity Receiver
UDR300C UHF Diversity Receiver

Which of these is normally used for feature film work, on a sound
cart? I am not too sure about the differences between the 300 and 301
for example.

Secondly, what is the antenna config for a quad box setup - do you
need special antennae like shark-fin and dipoles?

Also, any user reviews of the new digital 400 series for feature?
Anyone using these for feature on a cart with a Quad?

warm regards

Hi Vinod,
The UCR300 series is the same as the U.S. 200 series (200=300,
201=301, 210=310) except the deviation is 50 kHz instead of 75 kHz and
the transmitter output power is 50 mW instead of the U.S. 100 mW. The
power advantage is obvious. The difference in deviation reduces the FM
noise suppresion by a few dB on the 300's and is of minor consequence.
The 300 and 310 have RF tracking front ends that are about 12 MHz wide
at the 3 dB points and the 301 is like other equipment in having a
fixed front end that must cover the entire tuning range of 25 MHz and
is therefore about 30 MHz wide at the 3 dB points. The 301 also uses
lower current RF amplifiers since it has to run from a single 9 Volt
battery. The other units use more batteries or are external power only
to power much higher power front ends with better intermodulation and
overload performance. You can get a more thorough explanation from our
website. The advertising copy doesn't emphasise the "compromises" of
course.

If you are using a quad box, I recommend a pair of good (larger)
antennas since small size is not a requirement as it would be on a
camera mounted system. The SNA600 (Swiss Navy Antenna) folding dipole
is a good, modestly priced choice for most situations but the ALP700
(immodestly priced) will give you about 60% more range. There are
other antenna choices from other manufacturers that will work well
also. Some of the narrower band Yagi's can more than double your
range. Getting the antennas 8 to 10 feet up in the air will do wonders
also. The standard whip antennas that come with the receivers will
work on the quad box but I would use them for shorter range situations
under 75 feet. The whip antennas are reasonably good, but they will
be at quad box altitude.

Hi Larry,
The UCR311 series is like the 300 and the 310 again. Just with the added
display of the 301. Can you say that the 301 is the ENG version of the 311?

Hi Klaus,
My reply to Vinod should answer your question. The gist of the answer
was that the 301 is has a weaker RF front end than the 311 but the
audio and user operation is otherwise very similar. There have been
several fairly long discussions of the 201 vs the 211 on RAMPS and
these would fully apply to the differences between the 301 and 311.
You can best find these discussions archived on Google. There were
some interesting differences of opinion.

Both the 310 and 311 are ENG receivers but the I can recomend the 311
for bag systems, multichannel systems and hostile RF enviroments.
