I am about to purchase a new lectrosonic SR on faith and reputation
and was wondering about the slot mount capability. I heard that only
very new cameras with be able to feed 2 independent tracks to the
camera as most of the camera can only send 1 track to the camera via
the internal slot. Is this true and does anyone know how new a camera
has to be to be able to use the internal slot to feed two seperate
tracks. I am particularly interested in the Panasonic cameras.
Thanks,
Gary A. Bruckner

Thanks for your reply Larry. I hope to be up and running with my new
SR by the end of April. I will keep you posted.
But it is long over due that we cut the chord!

Hi Gary,
Panasonic, Ikegami, and Grass Valley are all working to enable their
second channels and have been easy to work with. We have wired our
adapters to correspond to their published data sheets. One other
vendor is being recalcitrant and is currently saying they will not
enable the second channel even though the electronics and the pins are
RIGHT THERE. We are working on a workaround for that vendor. Frankly,
I think the networks will cause them to cave.
As far as the response to the first run, the first run of 50 is still
here at the plant. However I can say that as observers of the first
run, we love them and we think they are really neat. So does my Mom.
We have built and/or shipped out about 20 beta units and have had very
positive responses with very few "suggestions". As far as faith and
reputation, I would expect some bugs since we never find everything in
beta tests (It's doing what!?!). The sales department will probably
set my office on fire after making sure I am securely locked in it,
but I would give it a few months to let the dust settle and the camera
manufacturers and us work out the interfaces. The various adapters,
where I expect the most problems, are easy to change out and I'm sure
we will be tweaking on them for a while. As usual, we will stand
behind our mistakes. :-)

Hmm, which "vendor" is not in the list? Does this surprise anyone in the

I have tested four models from Panasonic AJ-SDX900, AJ-HDX900, AJ-
HPX2000, and AJ-HPX3000 and all four of theses cameras did not support
the second channel. I have had several email, phone calls and in
person meetings with various people here in the LA office as well as
in NJ and they can not confirm if the second channel in the UniSlot
port is really wired up and only needs a firmware update or if the
second channel is dead. Several have said they would contact Japan and
get back to me. I will advise if and when I hear back. As for Sony
they only want to support their new Digital 2 channel system and it
will not be UniSlot friendly. >> Stay informed about: lectrosonics SR |

Hi Scott,
Everybody except the one vendor have told us they will enable the 2nd
channel. We will have prototype work arounds for the others by NAB.

Hi Larry, waiting on my SR and was wondering about some things you
were saying about second channel option mainly on the Panasonic SDX
and HDX cameras. Is second channel options attained by simply
connecting the SR in the slot ( lectrosonics figure out pinout and
connection ) or does the camera firmware and/or software need to be
updated?? Also, how would one choose the on which track they would be
recorded??
Thank you for your time.

The UniSlot design is on page 97 of the Panasonic HDX900 user guide.
all camera that use the UniSlot spec use this layout.
ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/Drivers/PBTS/manuals/OM_AJ-HDX900.pdf
you would set the inputs to wireless >> Stay informed about: lectrosonics SR |

Hi Pascal,
The camera manufacturers are going to have to enable the second
channel. What they will do with units already purchased, I don't know.
Again, there will be lots of discussions at NAB. It may require
external cables to do two channels on older slot cameras. At least the
receiver would be filling up the space in the slot. Again, I would
urge some caution until all the adapters get worked out. However the
SR can always be used with the stand alone adapter while the dust
settles. We started out with three adapters (finished) and are now up
to six (still cutting metal) with a few more possibilities.

Allright, thank you for the explanation. So hopefully Panasonic will
be wise enough to make this a software update or a simple SD card fix
for us to enable the camera already in the field. CUrrently i am
planning on using the SR hanging from the camera side and connecting
it using cables.
Thank you guys.

Hey I can be an optimist. I am sure that Larry and the boys would love
to retool a brand new design just so it looks more aesthetically
pleasing in my kit...wouldn't they?
