I don't know when I got into the habit of checking the index of every book I
read for mentions of Charlie Chaplin (am I the only one with that weird
habit?), but I found a few mentions in a new biography of the British writer
(and, like Chaplin, longtime California resident) Aldous Huxley.
One funny line: apparently Huxley was at Chaplin's Beverly Hills home, and upon
leaving Huxley turned to his companion, pointed to Chaplin's house and said
something like: isn't that the ugliest thing you've ever seen in your life?
In the interest of full disclosure, I should point out that Huxley was very
nearly blind...

of the leaders...All you have to do is to tell them
they are being attacked, and denounce the
pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the
country to danger."
