Looking for the name of a horror movie

I remember seeing a horror/suspense movie in the mid-to-late 80's
about a group of scientists who receieve a video signal from the
future (ie. signal was sent travelling back in time). There's a
haunted-house scenario in there somewhere as well - I can't remember
too many details, but I recall the movie was pretty creepy.

Anyone know the title?

Hi there.

This sounds like it could be a 1988 John Carpenter film called Prince of
Darkness with Donald Pleasence and a cameo from Alice Cooper..

In it, a mysterious cylinder, filled with green liquid, is discovered in the
basement of a church in LA. The cylinder is apparently millions years old
and its secret is held in a book containing complex mathematical formulae.
Meanwhile the scientists investigating the anomaly are plagued by dreams,
apparenlty messages sent from the future warning of some catastrophe
concerned with the cylinder.
