| OK, I'm familiar with "Sullivan's Travels" and "The Player," two of the
best. Lesser would include "The Stunt Man" and "Bowfinger." Also
could stretch the definition to include Mel Brooks's "Silent Movie," I
guess, but I know there are some of this genre that I'm overlooking.
"Barton Fink" would fit, I suppose, and parts of "The Way We Were."
Others?

I second on "Living in Oblivion" (excellent) and "State & Main" (very
good). Also like "The French Lieutentants Woman", though it's been
years since I've seen it, I remember it left an impression. >> Stay informed about: Best movies about movies? |

I like the moviemaking detour in 'the Bank Dick' -
Fields:"...instead of a drawing-room dra-ma...it's now a circus
picture! You score touchdown after touchdown!"
Leading man (in top hat, tie and tails): "In THESE clothes??"
Fields: "...you can change the hat."

I liked that one - some funny stuff especially the hick town folk selling
the film crew their "bottled" water.
Here's a few more - sorry if any have already been mentioned :-
"Hearts of the West"
"Never Give A Sucker an Even Break"
"Callaway Went Thataway " (This is supposed to be a hoot - haven't seen it
though"
"A Song is Born"
"The Studio Murder Mystery"
"The Jones Family in Hollywood"
"Hollywood or Bust" (I know it got poor reviews but I kind of liked it)
"The Falcon in Hollywood"
"Merton of the Movies"
"How Doooo You Do!!! " (Not one of the best as a matter of fact probably one
of the worst but it features radio comedian Bert Gordon "The Mad Russian")
"365 Nights in Hollywood"
I remember there was a British TV movie about the Trade Unions battle with
British government during the Thatcher regime. A Hollywood producer comes to
England to film the shenanigans as a Western type movie. Very funny but I
can't remember the title.

"Sunset Boulevard" - which is a gtohic satire on Hollywood - is one of
the best in this genre. And "The Bad and the Beautiful" is nice also.
In a very real way, Keaton's "Sherlock Jr." is about films, or at last
about their potential for manifesting dreams. For some "inside" aspects
there is "The Last Tycoon" (a highly flawed film), and concerning power
relationships on a set, there is "The Stuntman."
