Archived from groups: alt>cult-movies>alien (more info?)

Okay, I've finally took the plunge last night trying to isolate a piece
of information that I saw in the early Alien script that there is on
line, by Dan O'Bannon and Ron Shusett (before Hill and Giler interfered
with it) and suddenly realised that whatever I thought I had read there
was no longer there, then I checked with the version that is shown the
Alien Director's cut DVD and lo and behold they are not the same
script!

I thought that when I checked last some months ago that the one on the
DVD came with the sketches and the starmap that is on the one online, I
even remember clearly examining the starmap on the DVD version, but it
isn't there at all. It's like I've just stepped out of a parallel
universe.

One is a relatively close rewrite of the other. So I don't know what to
say about the one online, but it is still an official one, but whether
it is the one that Shusett and O'Bannon handed over as a script is
another thing entirely, and if the one online is their original script
still, whether that version was written before or after the one in the
DVD, although I assume after.

Oh, well, there goes that theory! :-)

The book itself sound pretty though. I definately need to
find it at some point.

Yeah. All of the sketches are interesting, just to see what
they had in mind back then. The pyramid is very cool.

Have a great day!

Who's read Junkyard by the writer Simak, which was the inspiration for
Alien, with the explorers landing on a planetoid where they find a
derelict alien ship and the crude tower structures with egg shaped
things lying inside?

It has been interesting looking at this old story, and just thinking
about the lots of possibilities of thinking about lost derelict
structures on planetoids, and altering the boundaries of writing what
might be Alien fan fiction, which I don't write but like the idea of
one day writing.
