Noah, in John Huston's THE BIBLE.
Huston stated that he almost persuaded
CC to play the part he eventually
played himself.
I think it was one of Chaplin's greatest
career miscalculations. He might
have come back as s force in film
acting late in life. |

Huston also has said he wanted Lee Marvin to play Noah as well.
I'm unsure why this would be a career miscalculation, it's not as if
The Bible was anything special as a motion picture. In fact the movie
is an utter waste of time.
If you're fantasizing about Chaplin appearing in a 60's Huston movie,
why not imagine him playing the character of Nonno in Night of the
Iguana? That's a much better movie and more interesting character
(with comedic potential) than Noah. |

I find Chaplin's performances so delightful, no matter what the character,
that I wish he had done more acting later in life. Even his turn as the
steward in "A Countess From Hong Kong" is one of the funniest bits in the
film.
I actually bought Huston's "The Bible" on DVD recently but haven't gotten
around to watching it. I'll have to see the film first before knowing how
Chaplin could have fit into it.

have done a very nice job as Noah. But, would he go for being

Pauline Kael also thought Brando's movie The Chase was stellar, so her
opinion is frequently worthless. She trashed Kuhrick's Lolita as well,
inanely claiming James Mason was miscast.
Two huge egos like Huston and Chaplin would have clashed. Aside from

Since he used to make fun of DeMille's biblical epics, why
would he want to act in one?
He toyed with the idea of playing Jesus, but I don't think he
had epic treatment in mind.

White Chaplin DVD Box - I was at Best Buy tonight, and noticed that Madacy has re-released two of their Chaplin DVD's in a box set, and guess what- they're in white boxes that look suspiciously similar to the new ones from Warner Home Video. Does this mean every Chaplin DVD..
