Hiya im in the market for a new mic and have been using the schoeps
Cmit and the schoeps mk 41, the cmit for wides outside/inside and then
the Mk41 for inside tights and two shots. I have just come off a film
where as the AD put it he has never worked on a film with so little
coverage, so what i mean is some times all you get is the wide and
thats it and this can make life very difficult, and some times the
headroom in the shot is massive and the reach of the mk41 doesnt do it
and the cmit is pretty good but is there any other one that people can
recomend, i have heard about the Neumann KMR 82 / 81, are these the
ones to go for does the 82 have more of a reach than the cmit and the
81?
Thanks in advance,

A long shotgun will have more "reach" than a shorter mic but the
pattern is narrower due to more off axis rejection. You can't go wrong
with a Neumann 81 or 82.

the 81 is great for indoors. the 82 is really long and not only will
be hard to manage in rooms with normal height ceilings, but might
sound strange or rather "tube-like."
i've never used the cmit myself, but if you already have one, i'd
think that should do you just fine for those wider indoor shots.

I use the 81 in and outdoors for years and years ...great,I have an 82
but hardly use it due to the narrow pattern.
Go for radiomike's for the wide shots( I do....) and maybe an 816 ( T
or PH) will help ? David C >> Stay informed about: schoeps Vs Neumann |

The 81 is my main mic and I like it a lot, because it's so versatile,
but the cmit 5 has more reach (I've been testing it on one of my
productions). The 82 has more reach, but not enough more for me to get
it. So I got myself two 816 PH which are my extra backup, just in case
there is a scene, where I can't use a radiomic or anything else. To me
they sound a little strange, but nothing you can't fix.
