The Denecke slates are pretty much the most popular, www.denecke.com.
I think Ambient also offers a digi slate. There's not a whole lot of
choices.

I like my Ambient 301, but the Deneckes can be easier to use. Both
are priced about the same, and are pretty much the only brands out
there.

Location Sound and Trew Audio sometimes have used units for sale.

I'm vey happy with my Denecke TS-C compact slate. It's fine for most
jobs and would be a nice "size" compliment to your 744. The backlight
feature is handy and it is extremely easy to change settings. I also
owned/used the Ambient ACD301 with the larger slide-on face. Best of
both worlds -- tiny, compact for doc work, slide the larger face on
and it's feature ready.

As Eric said, there aren't many choices. I've heard many dissatisfied
customers here bash the newer, low-cost Zeitx slate that was
available, due mainly to delivery promises that weren't kept.

I got one of those Triax/Zeitx slates thinking it would be a good
backup. The price was nice, but neither my crew (who didn't want to
learn the complex colored button pushing procedures) nor the ACs (who
could not "one-hand" it like one can with the ridge of the
clapperboard on the Denecke slates) found favor with it, and we took
it out of the rotation after two shows. Some of the features were
interesting and cool, but the practical use hindrances made it more of
a headache than a benefit.

The input wiring is also strange -- it would not accept a traditional
unbalanced TC signal from a mini plug as is common with most other
slates. I never had time to take an in-depth look and figure out
why.

I think the Ambient is the supperior slate.

-It has the ability to be compact or full size with the slide
on sleeve.

-With the built-in receiver, it has the capability of displaying
two codes (internal and external) which is essential for recording
scenes with playback.

-It's battery compartment is much more robust than the Denecke;
there has been much discussion here about modifying the denecke batt
compartments.

-Multiple levels of display brightness; Denecke just has high and low.

Denecke is a solid company with a lot of inovative products and great
support,
I just think the Ambient edges out with some of it's features.

Not sure why PSC stoped making the Inteli-slate.
You may find a used one but I'm not sure if they still support it or
not.

A quick search of the archives here will surely steer anyone away
from
a Zeitex product...

Truly, don't even consider Zeitx....you will NEVER receive it!

Sad that Ben can take your money, promise you over the course of a
year that it's in the mail, then go completely silent and not be
arrested for fraud is beyond me! With this post, you should not need
to search the archives!

A TC slate is overkill for most film projects in India, since we don't
do synced dailies and furthermore because Telecine does not sync
production sound.

The Denecke TS-3 has 3 display levels.
The Denecke TS-C has 12 levels
Both have back electroluminiscent feature.

I think the TS-3 is lighter than the 301. The TS-C it's lighter for
shure.

Ambient has now a "docu slate" but with limited features.
The TS-C is a better value for a compact slate and have a nice handle.
