Wellllll, maybe, maybe not. The problem there (at least
with Fred C. Dobbs) is that they got rich while isolated
from society. Had they gotten rich as quickly while
back in some American city, with the money safe in a
bank somewhere, they would have gotten along just
fine for years and years to come.

Good one. When I saw the thread I thought of an Eddie Bracken pic "Fun
on a Weekend" 1947 which I saw then and have never seen since. Bracken
and Pricilla Lane, both broke, suddenly appear to be rich and really
live it up.

oh, come on. Dobbs's problem was obviously decreased serotoninergic
neurotransmission.

Had Dobbs had a higher concentration of serotonin in his synapses with
lower rates of reuptake, he wouldn't have gone batty with paranoia &
delusional thinking, & he, Tim Holt & Walter Huston would have
remained pretty good friends.

Why do you think you got rish "too quick"?
Did it go to her head or did she just enjoy
her money? After all, the "uncultured"
part was only one half of the question.

Or do you think that *anyone* getting rich
falls into this category (unless it's an
already fairly wealthy jerk like John
Kerry marrying into even more money?)
