Total newbie question, apologies for bothering you people who know what
you're doing:
I need to set up an essentially amateur shoot in a couple of weeks.
Decisions made by others mandate the use of cheap wireless lavalier mic
systems for two performers. Do I need to secure a receiver for each
mic, or can one receiver accomodate two or more mics? Does this vary by
type of system or brand? Thanks - >> Stay informed about: Does each wireless mic need its own receiver? |

Yes! A transmitter and receiver for each person and each set has to be
on different frequencys.
or can one receiver accomodate two or more mics?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Well discounting the Zaxcom stereo units, the answer is no.

No

Azden makes a dual-channel receiver. It's not known for quality or
reliability... I think they intend it for team aerobics coaches.

Silly question...
with the Zaxcom receivers..is it possible to have
2 separate transmitters into 1 Zaxcom?
Or does the stereo transmitter carry shared info for both channels..
(just wondering how nice it would be to have one receiver in my bag..and 2
separate
people mic'ed up)

Audie O.,
Rule of thumb: A good boom mic almost always sounds better than a lav
unless the boom has to be too far away. Another option is a plant mic
-- hide a microphone on the set that is near both of the performers and
in the direction they will be talking.
The "secret" is, to listen. Try the setups ahead of time and listen
through a good set of headphones. Good dialogue should be clean and
clear without too much room coloration (reverb, etc.).

Sorry Eric, but NO. The Zaxcom stereo Rx cannot receive from two mono
tx's simultaneously.

According to the info on the Zaxcom site, any Zax eng xmtr can be used
with the stereo receiver. If that's not so then it's worded in a way
that's very misleading.

I think that means that a mono transmitter can be used with the stereo
receiver. Of course, you'll only be receiving one mono channel. As I
understand it, there is a single carrier frequency that contains both
audio channels, so you couldn't use two transmitters.

That statement is true. Any Zaxcom transmitter - mono or stereo, can be
used with either the studio or ENG Zaxcom receivers.
The question, as I read it was, can the stereo receiver receive from two
mono transmitters simultaneously, and that answer would be negativo

Taken further: Not even the Zaxcom stereo receiver can accept signals from
two transmitters simultaneously. But, a Zaxcom stereo transmitter can send
data containing two descrete channels of audio that can be received,
processed, and output in two descrete analog audio channels by a Zaxcom
receiver.
