Australian actor cast in David Lynch's next
Posted on Thr, 28-Oct-2004
In an interview with today's Herald-Sun, Australian actor Kick Gurry -
who briefly appeared in "Buffalo Soldiers", and had a lead role in
Alex Proyas's "Garage Days" - reveals that he's snagged a role in
David Lynch's next "renegade-style" movie.
Unfortunately, that's all we get to know about the Lynch project.
Gurry does speak a little about the role he's playing in a forthcoming
Quentin Tarantino pic called "Daltry Calhoun".
Gurry plays the "hybird grass expert" in the film, which stars Johnny
Knoxville as a golfing tycoon whose world is thrown into chaos when
his teenage daughter arrives, and a glitch in the grass that is making
him millions.
"It's similiar in style and story to What's Eating Gilbert Grape?",
Gurry explains. "It's a story about how if someone integral to a small
town changed thier life in some way, it can affect the whole town".
Gurry says Tarantino was originally going to play the part.
"It's a really funny role and he thought it would be too distracting
for people to see Quentin Tarantino playing that role", he says.
"The character was an American guy who wanted to be an Australia, so
he would always speak with an Australian accent. once I got involved,
it was just a lot better that the guy just was an Australian".
After the David Lynch pic, Curry is eying a "big, commercial Hollywood
project".
