No.. She says.. Kane said he say thousands of eggs down there... thousands.
And he didn;t.

No, they couldn't, cos the egg chamber *wasn't* a part of the ship.
(And the enterance was tiny... That was all they had to base it's size on.)

They also knew the winch lowered Kane for a long time and so he must have gone
pretty deep.
It's pretty reasonable to guess that the room was very big (as in, lots of
floor space) based on the height of it.
It's probably rare to have a room which has a height much greater than its
length and its width.
If the chamber were narrow the whole way down like a mine shaft, Kane probably
would have commented on it.
Since Kane didn't make such a comment, Dallas would assume the chamber was
huge.
Dallas might mention that assumption to Ripley eventually. >> Stay informed about: Before Alien 5 is writen. |

ALIENS showed us that *Newt* didn't touch an egg. But maybe one of the
*aliens* touched it!
And I'm not sure anything had to touch Kane's egg to activate it. Maybe
getting close was enough. He just happened to touch it too.
IIRC the script emphasized that Kane woke that egg by touching it, but I think
the movie is ambiguous.
>(Unless one takes the notion that *new* eggs can sense hosts.. and *dormant*
>eggs need the outside stimulus.. )
It's possible that some of the facehuggers were dead, not just dormant.
Maybe *most* of the eggs near Kane held dead 'huggers. (They were passed their
sell-by date!)
The aliens might have variations in lifespan. Humans sure do. The one that
got Kane was the last live one in the area. (And its name, ladies and
gentlemen, was Bob Hope.)
Also, the eggs might have been laid at different times, maybe years apart. >> Stay informed about: Before Alien 5 is writen. |

How would the Nostromo's crew know that?
Let's just say Ripley *assumed* the chamber was part of the ship, an entire
lower deck.
Just for the record, I think the chamber *was* a part of the ship.
Maybe that wasn't the spacejockey-designated entrance, but the chamber was
still SJ-made, in my opinion. >> Stay informed about: Before Alien 5 is writen. |

WAY to many *assumptions* to ratify bad (ie Lazy) scriptwriting in Aliens.
The *drop* wasn't that long.
Large ceilings are standard for beings the size of the the space jockeys
*probably rare* ??? ;' ) For all they knew it could have been a corridor!
(Oh.. And Dallas, as we see ALL the way through the movie is NOT the most
talkative person in the world. It would be more in character for Dallas
8not* to say anything... why? Cos it didn;t matter!)
Sorry bud, assumptions do not a good plot point make!
;' )

Nooo....
It was totally dormant till he touched it, the *electrical CRACKLE* was
heard and then it moved.

I've watched it enough. I might have to *listen* to it again though. I never
noticed a crackle when Kane touched the egg. (After being prompted, I *did*
notice the sizzle from the faceplate but not any other weird noises.) >> Stay informed about: Before Alien 5 is writen. |

Ripley: So, is he going to make it?
Dallas: Dunno, it looks bad.
Ripley: What happened, where was he?
Dallas: We were in the ship, we lowered him down this shaft thing, then all
hell broke loose.
Ripley: Shaft? What was it down there?
Dallas: Eggs, he said.
Ripley: Eggs? More than one?
Dallas: Yeah, that's what he said. "leathery objects".
Ripley: But how many?
Dallas: I have no idea, it was he who went down there, ok? He said the place
was full of them.
Ripley: Ok, so how big was this "place"?
Dallas: I told you, I don't know.. Ok? I'll tell you this, it took some time to
winch him all the way down, so it was pretty deep.
Ripley: Ok, so for all we know, there could be thousands of eggs out there??
Dallas: I'm not jumpiong to conclusions, but yeah,it's a possibilty...
** 57 years passes... **
Ripley: "Kane said he saw thousands of eggs..."
Hypersleep will do that to you. :P
