I don't buy the idea that Morpheus said it was 2199, for a start. He
said it was closer to 2199 than it was to 1999 - which could mean he
believed it was 'only' 2100. I can't reconcile the idea that it's 2199
with the "100 years" speech in Reloaded, even allow for the 01 conflict.
So, I take Morpheus' 100 years as my 'gospel' - that is, it has been 100
years since the last incarnation of the anomaly that he believes "freed
the first of us". I also arbitrarily presume that each version of the
Matrix lasted, say, 10% longer than its' successor to allow for the
Architect's increasing efficiency in dealing with the anomaly. With that
in mind, I see it as:
v.7: 100 years duration
v.6: 110 years
v.5: 121 years
v.4: 133 years
v.3: 146 years
v.2: 160 years
We have no way of knowing how long v.1 lasted - the Eden-like perfect
world described by Smith and the Architect. Then there are the years
between the start of the 01 conflict and the creation of the Matrix.
Both would be in single figures I'd imagine though, so add little to the
overall total.
So it's very inexact, but I tend to think of the year as 1999 + 770
years of Matrices 1-6 + 5 years between the B1-66ER Trial and the
development of Matrix v.1.
So to my mind, the year is approximately 2774.
